Races for Life 2016

>>  Thursday, July 21, 2016

In a bid to up the anti on last year I decided to enter for 2 Race for Life events.  In an unfortunate entry mix up I managed to enter for 3 and decided to just stick with it  despite the fact that I haven't been able to run much at all since my knee finally gave up the ghost about last October.

The first of the 3 was a pretty muddy in May.  I joined a group of ladies from my Martial arts based exercise class and I had a ball.

It was far too much fun to be worthy of the sponsorship I got.

So I had intended that the June 5k would be ran with solid sportsman like dedication.

Unfortunately fun got in the way again and the same ladies, plus a few more, made it another great morning out.  I ended up finishing it in a sprint with one of my brownies.  A really proud moment.

But the July 10k was never going to be as much fun.  I'd entered on my own, so no chums to spur me on.  I haven't run a 10k for at least 9 months prior and only walked it a handful of times.

But HWMBO and Cog came along to support me and cheered from the sidelines

I managed to run most of it and finished in 65 minutes.  Which wasn't bad going for no training and only 800mg of ibruprofen keeping me on my feet.

Thank you so much to everyone who sponsored me.

A lot of medical research funding will be lost as we leave the EU and it will come to rely more and more on public fund raising, so every penny really does count.

The life expectancy for people with many different types of cancer now is so much better than a few years ago and the treatments are getting more targeted and less harsh but there is still a long way to go.

So I guess next year I will need to do a Pretty Muddy, a 5k, a 10k and the 40K hike to warrant still asking for your money.

Wish me (and my knee) luck!
