Puff Pastry and Pesto Party Tree (Dairy Free)

>>  Saturday, January 09, 2016

New Years Eve Party time arrived again and with only a very small group of us for a cards and games night there was little party prep to do, but I wanted to have something a little bit special to put out.

I rolled out ready made puff pastry, jus-rol (at the time of writing) is dairy free.

I spooned over one piece FreeFrom Pesto.  (Most pestos seem to have  milk in them, the FreeFrom does not - you do have to be careful with the FreeFrom ranges though and check each product to see what exactly it is free from as not all are dairy free)

I placed the other half of the pastry on top and cut a tree shape.
Then made cuts in strips towards the centre.

I twisted each strip and 'crimped' the top a little.

I brushed it with egg (not dairy and Cog is only milk protein intolerant)  then put it in the oven at 180C for about 20 mins.

When it comes out each branch of the tree can be twisted off for eating much like a cheese straw size and shape.

And it makes a lovely table centre piece with some dairy dips (like humus) in accompaniment.

(I also cut the original tree trimmings into strips, twisted then baked them and they were just as yummy.)
