Post Microdiscectomy 6 Months

>>  Saturday, August 11, 2012

It's been a while since I told you how my back and leg are doing.

The last update was at the start of July when an MRI confirmed I had herniated my L5-S1 for the 3rd time.  But this is the first time since my microdiscectomy.  I was booked in for a root block under x-ray for the end of July.

During July we went to Paris for a few days.  We travelled by train which was no stress as I could get up as much as I wanted and walk around.  We walked around Paris for 6 days and by the time I got home I was totally pain free.  I cancelled my root block.

I had another week at home on holiday and as the usual chores commenced, the soreness started to creep back in.

I returned to work and the back started to ache and the leg started to get more sore.  Notice I'm using words like ache and sore not teeth grinding pain.  Things are still a lot better.

I've been loathed to say it out loud because every time I've gotten close to thinking something might be improving it usually comes to a painful halt.  But this run of luck seems to be holding.

I now feel like I did last June when my trouble all started.  At the time I thought I was in pain!  If I knew what was to come I'd have known that this isn't pain, it's a pain in the neck being sore but compared to what I have been through it is manageable at the moment.

I have 3 months in which to have this root block with out needing to revisit the consultant first, given that each appointment costs me over £200, this is something to be considered seriously.  Each time my leg 'flares up' I think, I will have it but when I weigh up the risks against the actual issue I'm still thinking time might finally be the great healer.

Fingers crossed.
